I don’t know how to format my images

Solution: Upload only JPG files (do not use GIFs, TIFFs or other formats). JPGs must be less than 2 MB, 1920 pixels on the longest side and at least 72 dpi. Please upload images in the order you wish them to be viewed. They will be projected one at a time during the application material review session. The system will automatically label uploaded files with your last name, first initial and a number indicating the viewing order.

Image Formatting and Editing
There are many programs you can use to format and edit your images.  Some of the free programs available on-line include:

For PC:
• Picasa  www.picasa.google.com
• IrfanView www.irfanview.com

For MAC:
• Seashore www.seashore.sourceforge.net

For BOTH:
• GIMP www.gimp.org
• Photoshop Express www.photoshop.com/express

Photoshop Formatting Directions
The following is a step-by-step process of formatting and editing your images with standard Photoshop software (not Photoshop Express).  This is not an official endorsement, it is the program we are most familiar with.  Some of the steps will probably translate quite easily into other programs.

1. Open Photoshop

2. Click on “File” in the top navigation row.
• Click on Open.
• Browse to find your image files.
• Highlight image files you want to work with.
• Click on Open.
• Usually it works best to open 10 or less images at a time.

3. Click on the image you want to work on, the top bar of the activated image will be blue.

4. Click on “Image” in the top navigation row.
• Choose “Adjust” from the dropdown menu.
• Click on “Levels” in the dropdown menu on the side.
• A “Levels” box will appear with a graph of the range of dark to light in your image.
• Move the sliding triangles under the graph so the far left and far right triangles line up with the edges of the graph above.  This will change the levels of dark and light in your image.
• You can also slide the middle triangle to further adjust the light and dark in the image.
• Click “OK” when you are happy with your image.

5. Click on “Edit” in the top navigation row.
• Click on “Color Settings” near the bottom of the drop-down menu.
• Under “Working Space” choose  sRGB IEC61966-21

6. Click on “Image” in the top navigation row.
• Click on “Image Size”.
• Uncheck Resample Image.
• Change the resolution of your image to match the requirements for each application. This will change the height and width of the image.
• Check Resample Image.
• Change the Pixel Dimension to match the requirements of the call you are answering.
• If you leave the “Constrain Proportions” box checked, the ratio of width to height of the image will remain consistent.
• Click “OK”

NOTE: it is fine to make the image smaller or a lower resolution, but trying to make it bigger or a higher resolution will not work well.

7. Save (click on “File” in the toolbar, then click on “Save As”.  You will be able to name your file and send it to a storage area).

8. Check the size of your image outside of Photoshop.

9. If your image is bigger than the required 2 MB size, open it again in Photoshop and follow step 5 above, this time decreasing the resolution.  Do not decrease the resolution lower than 72 dpi.

10. Be sure your images open by themselves in the standard image viewer on your computer, not with Photoshop.
